Sam was a deserving recipient of the award beating some of the world’s best front rowers to win the accolade. At the age of 21, Sam is leading from the front as The Bulldogs surge towards the finals. We wish The Bulldogs & Sam the best of luck in their quest to win their first premiership since 2004.

IRB World Rankings
After a dominant display against the Welsh, Australia sits in second place on the IRB world rankings.
Wales who were fourth last week drop down to sixth place in the standings and Ireland’s 60-0 loss to New Zealand sees them drop from 6th to seventh.
New Zealand, Australia and South Africa remain the top three sides in the world, but the flurry of Test activity means every side from fourth to 12th changes position. If the Wallabies can defeat the incomparable All Blacks in The Castrol EDGE Rugby Championships they can secure top spot in The IRB World Rankings.

What we learnt from the Qantas Wallabies v Scotland Test.
Article by Stephen Hoiles.
In miserable conditions like last night’s Test, it is often difficult to summarise a game.
When we look at most professional sports these days, the stats normally lead you in the direction of the victorious team.
However, in this case, they almost prove what many Rugby supporters proclaim, when it’s wet and miserable you are better off without the ball.
The Qantas Wallabies had 61% of possession. In the modern game, that is massive. What’s worse for Qantas Wallabies fans is that the stat that counts, no matter what the conditions are, is the time spent in the opposition 22.
The Qantas Wallabies spent 10 minutes and 15 seconds in Scotland’s 22 compared to the Scot’s 5 minutes 47 seconds.
The above stat highlights two things:
1: The Qantas Wallabies lack of combinations and an inability to turn possession and territory into points.
2: The determination of the Scottish defence.
Preparation:
In today’s game when there is so little between the top 10 teams in the world, preparation counts for so much.
The Scots have been out here for a week, training and living together. Prior to this they have spent a couple of weeks in training camps back home.
The Qantas Wallabies on the other hand have had players come and go from the FxPro Super Rugby squads. Seven of the starting 15 played in last week’s FxPro Super Rugby round.
Now I know many past Wallabies may read this and say that back in their day they had a mid-week game every week and still backed up and played on the Saturday.
While I appreciate that these tours were jam packed with games of Rugby, we simply cannot underestimate the pace of the modern game and the impact the physical confrontations have on players these days.
Robbie Deans will most certainly have headaches trying to work out why for the second year in a row his team has lost a game they were expected to win to kick start their Test campaign.
Luckily, he and the rest of the squad have little to no time left to lick their wounds. They are playing a game in four day’s time and many players will have to back up. For some players like David Pocock, and Steve Moore, they will have to play three games in seven days.
Tighthead is king:
Many players didn’t get a chance to perform given the testing conditions, but I thought Dan Palmer on debut did a great job holding the Aussie scrum up.
Many people (mainly props) say when selecting your best 22, the first man picked is your tight head and the second man picked is the reserve tight head. Palmer was replaced mid-way through the second half by his University of Canberra Brumbies teammate Ben Alexander, who has spent most of this FxPro Super Rugby season at loose head and occasionally at tight head.
The Scots two best scrums were their last two and while it says a lot about the character of the visitors it also highlights our need for a specialist tight head prop.
Combinations:
I’m assuming Saturday’s game v Wales will be a very different 15 that played tonight, but again, I think time may be against us.
Deans needs to get his preferred backline for this Saturday’s Test and, barring injury, try and stick with it for the next three weeks.
I have always felt in Rugby, you can play around with a forward pack combination slightly more than a backline. Why? Well as a forward, you look to the key positions 9, 10, 12 and 15 for direction and decisions. The more comfortable they are with each other, the more comfortable the eight forwards generally feel.
Deans obviously has little time to come up with a team for next week but I’m sure he had 90% of this Saturday’s Test team penciled in last week. Now it’s time to get them on the training pitch as much as possible.
The British & Irish Lions Tour of Australia!
As The Wallabies ponder their loss to Scotland overnight, The Blaze Agency looks ahead to 2013, for the highly anticpated British Lions tour of Australia.
One of the most iconic sporting teams in the world, the Lions are drawn from the best players in England, Ireland, Wales and Scotland and tour Australia just once every 12 years.
Never playing at home, and only assembled for overseas visits, the Lions travel to Australia, New Zealand and South Africa on a rotational basis every four years and take with them a passionate supporter base numbering in its tens of thousands.
“That tour was unforgettable and the Wallabies won it by two Tests to one.
“We expect the 2013 Tour to be even bigger and better.”
The Lions will play all five Australian Super Rugby clubs – the Force, Reds, Waratahs, Brumbies and Rebels – along with a combined NSW-Queensland Country team and three Test matches in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.
“It is a series that is already highly anticipated,” said Lions Tour manager and former Scottish and Lions Test fullback Andy Irvine, who is currently in Australia as part of preparations for the 2013 visit.
“Our plan is to ensure we are completely prepared for the tour and that we put in place an environment that will mean the Lions have every opportunity to be successful next year.
“It is just fantastic that the Lions concept has stood the test of time, taken on and embraced the professional era and emerged stronger and more popular than ever.
“The level of support the Lions enjoy from their supporters is unprecedented and the Lions are probably the best supported team in world Rugby.
“It is a unique concept in world sport and one hell of a challenge, one that sees a combined team playing against some of the strongest teams in the world every four years on a tour away from home.
“Yet the players cherish the opportunity and those selected consider it the ultimate accolade in their playing career.
“The Lions are a very proud team with a unique ethos and a wonderful history, and the famous red shirt is synonymous with such a challenge and in 2013 that challenge is Australia and the Wallabies, one of the best teams in world Rugby.
“But it is a challenge that the players relish and one they will look forward to.”
Details regarding the timelines for when tickets go on sale for the Tests and tour matches will be announced in coming weeks.
“There’s no doubt the demand for Test match tickets will be enormous in the first instance, and we have every confidence the supporters of our Super Rugby clubs will also be keen to see their teams take on the Lions,” said Mr O’Neill.
“We will have more than 30,000 British and Irish fans in the country during the series as well, so I would urge Super Rugby and Qantas Wallabies fans to grab their tickets as soon as they can.
“This will be a sporting event you don’t want to miss. The Lions come here just once every 12 years. They embark on a full-scale tour. They bring a massive army of fans with them. And in 2013 it all starts in Perth.”
